I haven't done much art lately, the life I'm leading these days isn't really pushing me towards it, so I am not really present in the scene anymore. I believe I'd have to get out of my home country to be able to make any kind of living from it, but, I am in the process of doing so, so, I'll see how that goes.
I completely lost track of anything going on here, but yeah, the same has happened on my end, most people I used to watch now are either inactive or disappeared, but that's just life.
Lol, that’s okay. I was the same way until just recently with checking in on here. I tend to disappear from various places for extended periods of time as my interests shift.
Anyway, l’m doing pretty good! Not much going on but that‘s how I like it.
As far as following an art career of any kind, it’s totally okay to just keep it a hobby. I draw fairly often and I feel that way most of the time. Sometimes I think a career could work but there’s this nagging part of me that worries I would grow to hate or find it stressful if I went that route, and that scares me—but maybe I am concerned over nothing.
So what country are you planning to move to, if you don’t mind my asking? You are currently in Portugal, yes? At least so would assume, based on your name, lol.
Yeah, I'm in Portugal. I'm planning on moving to Spain, if I can (Tried England and USA before, but it turns out that by law non EU-based companies literally can't just hire me even if they wanted to. Wish I knew sooner.), but getting any half decent company to hire someone from abroad is not easy at all, although sometimes it seems that dynamic is reversed in Portugal.
Yeah, the feeling that doing art professionally would ruin your pleasure for art is actually justified. I already worked at a local animation studio here and ... While the people there were nice, the work actually became more annoying than anything to me, although, arguably more because I found their organizational skills to be lacking and I felt they were wasting my time going in circles rather than focus their ideas and work efficiently (and that was something I took extra seriously since I was working 2 jobs and the time I could give them came at a high personal cost). It's a studio that has everything to be a nice workplace but I don't feel minimally inclined to go back there, unfortunately.
This doesn't mean it would be the same experience if it were you, but for these kind of things, it's not that easy to find "your group", and the place where you wouldn't mind spending years in and still enjoy your work. I don't think such thing even exists sometimes but I want to hope so, even if it seems to be getting increasingly harder to justify it for me.
